kit fairbanks (they/them)

Kit (they/them) started doing Pilates when it was recommended to them to help with their anxiety and depression. They immediately fell in love with the emphasis on mind-body connection and have since developed a deep love for movement as a form of self-care and empowerment.

As a nonbinary person and proud member of the queer community, Kit is committed to opening the door for more diversity in the Pilates industry - more genders, more skin tones, more abilities, more body shapes and sizes. Their mission statement, "More Bodies Doing Pilates", reflects this vision, striving to make Pilates accessible and affordable for all. You can find a complete list of initiatives on their website.

Kit is a NPCP-certified Pilates instructor, NASM-certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist.

When they're not teaching or doing Pilates themselves, Kit enjoys reading, puzzles, playing video games, and watching sports.

What makes be found pilates different

Pilates has a long history of elitism, and has historically catered to wealthy, white cis-het women. Be Found Pilates was started to make Pilates more accessible to more people, and as a way to offer Pilates at a more equitable rate.

community-driven initiatives

  • Pay-What-You-Can mat classes (available in-person and through Zoom). No one is turned away due to lack of funds.

  • For every 20-credit class package sold (mat or equipment), a 20-class package is donated to someone who normally can’t afford classes.

  • Once a month, every credit that was “lost” the previous month (due to cancellations, no-shows, etc.) is put into a pool of credits that can be purchased at a discounted rate.

  • 10% of gross profit is put into an annual scholarship to be awarded to an individual to go through Pilates Teacher Training (restrictions apply).
